October 1, 2023SEPANG, 30 September – Officially launched today by Malaysian Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, YB Tuan Adam Adli, the inaugural FIA Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship (APMC) moved into higher gear as 171 competitors from 23 nations in the region commenced their real battles after yesterday’s unofficial practice round.
Having viewed the glorious challenge trophies unveiled at the official opening ceremony held at the SIC paddock hospitality, the competitors then returned to their battlegrounds with renewed enthusiasm to be the best and be champions in their respective disciplines – sprint karting, slalom karting, rallying, auto gymkhana and e-sports.
In his speech, FIA Vice-President for Sport (Asia-Pacific), Datuk Lee Lung Nien said that the championship represents not only a new chapter in the history of motorsport in the Asia Pacific region but also a testament to the indomitable human spirit that knows no boundaries.
“Through five exhilarating disciplines encompassing Rally, Gymkhana, Karting, Esport,and Karting Slalom, we will witness the epitome of skill, precision, and determination. Each driver, with their eyes set on victory, will push themselves to the limits, racing fast and racing hard. But let us always remember the guiding principle that lies at the heart of our sport – the importance of fair competition.
“Competition is the driving force behind progress and achievement. It pushes us to reach new heights, to surpass our limitations, and to continually strive for greatness. But as we gather here today, we must also remember that competition alone is not enough. We must embrace the values of respect and sportsmanship, for they are the pillars upon which our championship stands,” he added.
Accompanied by MAM President Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir and the FIA vicepresidents, YB Adam then took time to see some of the drivers in action at Sepang International Go Kart Circuit and at Main Grand stand Mall Area; competing their skills in go-karting and gymkhana; as well as on the simulators for e-sports.
Today’s sessions focused more on the preliminaries as they fight to earn places in the final rounds tomorrow to compete for the coveted gold medals and earn their beloved nations the right to be champions of the inaugural APMC.
