MEDIA STATEMENT ON MOTORSPORTS ACTIVITIES- COVID-19
March 5, 2020FIM Technical Seminar – POSTPONED
March 13, 2020Motorsports Association of Malaysia (“MAM”) is fully aware of the ever-changing situation in regards to COVID-19.
The safety of Malaysian motorsports personnel and fans is paramount and of utmost importance and as such, MAM STRONGLY URGES the motorsports community to temporarily postpone all motorsports activities until the situation surrounding COVID-19 subsides and improves. This decision is made based on the directive from the Ministry of Health (“MOH”), Sports Commission and in consultation with the MAM Medical Commission.
However, should organizers decide to proceed with its scheduled events, MAM highly recommends that they be held with minimal personnel and spectators, as in a CLOSED event format. Organizers are expected to take a responsible approach towards personal hygiene to reduce the risk of infection at the same time follow the guidelines provided by MOH and WHO for participants attending that event. This would include providing hand sanitisers, sanitising all touchpoints in public areas more frequently and encouraging a general cleanliness culture.
MAM is monitoring FIA and FIM decisions on all sanctioned events. It is sad but fully understandable that major events have been cancelled to avoid spreading the COVID-19 virus. We will continue to engage with the relevant Malaysian authorities and update the motorsports community regularly.
Please exercise extra precaution and proper hygiene throughout this period.
