APMC OVERALL MEDAL
October 3, 2023SEPANG, 3 October – Host Malaysia took the overall honours at the inaugural FIA Asia Pacific Motorsports Championship (APMC), which ended yesterday after a three-day thrilling battle at Sepang International Circuit (SIC); winning Four (4) gold, Two (2) silver and One (1) bronze medals. Winning gold medals in rally, gymkhana and e-sports, the host edged Australia, which took second place with two gold medals in rallying and the other through the superb performance of their young karter, Ky Burke who won the cadet sprint. Indonesia took overall third in the Games that attracted 23 countries in the Asia Pacific region.
“We are here to foster closer rapport and understanding; and working together to promote motorsports development and to take motorsports in the region to a higher plane; perhaps making some of the disciplines as part of the Olympic Games. Naturally, there are many areas of the event that can be further enhanced and together, we can make the APMC a world class event. Looking forward, the APMC
can only get better,” Tan Sri Mokhzani said.
“It’s indeed a tremendous honour to be the first overall champions of the APMC. I would like to congratulate each and every member of the Malaysian team for their belief, dedication and hard work that they put in despite the short notice and their packed daily schedule; having their own daily routines of school and work. You are the best; and I am truly honoured to be part of the team,” said Malaysian Team Leader, Jazeman Jaafar.
Thanking FIA for their confidence in selecting Malaysia to host the inaugural event, MAM President Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir said that everybody was a winner at the Games, as winning medals was not the main agenda at the APMC.
Aik Sha and two golds in e-sports from the solo performance of Muhammad Naquib Nor Azlan and the team event. Apart from Burke in karting, Australia also two gold medals through their rally stars Molly Spalding and Matthew Dillon, who took gold in the Regularity category and the overall honours in the discipline. Spalding and Dillon also took a silver in the Control Speed Stage.
Indonesia was declared as the third overall winners after secured the gold medals through Prasetyo Hardja in the sprint karting senior category; and two category in gymkhana.
Initiated by the FIA, the APMC is organized by a collaboration of ASNs to allow a lower-cost access to an event that brings the best in the region within the disciplines of sport in the event. It is envisioned that this will allow access to a bigger platform of recognition to participants, teams and drivers in their ongoing efforts to race in an international platform.
