July 23, 2021MAM MERDEKA VIRTUAL RACE SETS PULSES RACING FOR E-SPORT
September 1, 2021Wednesday, 25 August 2021 – The battle for e-racing supremacy heats up in the inaugural MAM Merdeka Virtual Race as the event held in conjunction with the 64th Merdeka celebration heads towards the home straight.
Organised by the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM), the event, which runs from 3-31 August 2021, is held in collaboration with Adrenaline Impact, MSF and RaceRoom. Leading insurance and takaful provider Etiqa is the Platinum sponsor for the event, while premium lubricants maker Hi-Rev is the Gold Sponsor.
“The event has been well received among the e-racing fraternity in Malaysia,” said MAM Secretary-General, Muizz Azli. “It has attracted 434 participants across the e-racing events as well as the Virtual Racer Clinic.
“With limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we explored how we can continue to foster the spirit of motorsports in a different way and show our support for Malaysian motorsports.
“Learning from our experience in the Lockdown Virtual Championships last year, we wanted to provide a special platform for the e-racing community, especially in conjunction with the Merdeka celebration,” added Muizz.
There are three platforms contested in the event namely iRacing, Gran Turismo Sport and RaceRoom. 30 teams of two drivers registered for the iRacing event where 25 teams (50 drivers) will advance to the final on 30 August 2021.
For Gran Turismo Sport, 26 teams of four drivers registered but only 12 teams (48 drivers) will vie for glory in the final. On the RaceRoom platform, a total of 226 drivers participated in the event but only 24 Expert and 24 Novice drivers will go to the final. Both Gran Turismo Sport and RaceRoom final will be held on 31 August 2021.
“The Virtual Racer Clinic held in collaboration with Split Second Advanced Driving (SSAD) on 14 August was also well received with more than 40 participants attending the class,” added Muizz.
