Karting is the starting point for most aspired drivers in Formula 1 as well as other discipline. A driver starts karting from the age of 8 and then progress to other form of motorsports like car racing, rally, and the ultimate Formula 1. Almost all Formula 1 drivers has gone through karting before embarking on the journey in this discipline.
Races are held on purpose built tracks homologated to the safety standards as defined by FIA Karting for International races and by the ASN for National homologation. Tracks are usually around 1200 metres length although there are tracks that are over 1500 metres being the longest and 900 metres for shorter tracks.
WHAT CATEGORIES IN THE KARTING SPRINT
- Cadet 8-12 years old
- Junior 12-15 years old
- Senior 15 years onwards
- Masters 32 years onwards
WHAT TYPE OF KARTS AVAILABLE AND WILL BE USED IN THE KARTING SPRINT
There are many manufacturers of kart in the world. Most notably the successful ones are from Italy. Brands that are popular at the moment are CRG, TonyKart, Parolin, BirelArt, Praga, Ital Corse and others.
WHAT TYPE OF ENGINES WILL BE USED IN THE KARTING SPRINT
For this event, the IAME X30 125 TaG engines will be used. The Karting Sprint will be run on a one make engine configuration for ease of control and checks. For the Cadet class the engine will be IAME X30 WaterSwift 60cc and the rest will be using the IAME X30 TaG engines.
HOW WILL THE WINNERS BE DETERMINED
- Drivers will have a session of Official Practice of 15-20 minutes
- A 10 minutes session for Qualifying Time Trial to determine who is the fastest.
- The fastest time achieved by a driver will then determine his starting grid position in Heat 1.
- After Heat 1, points will be awarded for the finishers.
- Heat 2 starting grid will be from the same starting position of Heat 1.
- After Heat 2, points will again be awarded for the finishers.
- Points achieved in both Heats 1 & 2 will be then be added up to see who has achieved the highest points. The starting grid for Super Heat will be determined from the highest points to the lowest.
- Points will be awarded to the finishers of the Super Heat.
- Together with the points achieved in Heat 1 and 2 plus the points from Super Heat, the starting grid for the Final will be from the highest points achieved to the lowest.
- The overall winners of the race will be determined from the finishing position achieved in the Finals.
